How to Use Beaver Flow

Beaver Flow is designed to help you break down your ideas, goals, or large tasks into smaller, manageable steps. The core idea is to make complex things actionable.

Breaking Down Tasks

The main magic happens with the "Break Down Tasks" button. Simply enter your initial thought or task description in the input box at the top. Then, click the "Break Down Tasks" button, and our system will automatically generate a list of potential steps or sub-tasks for you! Feel free to try this multiple times with the same input or different inputs to see the possibilities.

Understanding the Settings

Specificity Level

This setting acts as a hint to our AI, guiding how detailed you want the task breakdown to be. Think of it as telling the system whether you want a high-level outline or a very granular list of steps. It's not an exact science, so we encourage you to experiment with different levels to find the one that best suits your needs for a particular task.

Dictation Language

Besides typing, you can also use your voice to input your task descriptions! We know that sometimes speaking is just easier and faster.

  • How it works: This feature uses your web browser's built-in speech recognition technology for privacy reasons – your audio isn't processed on our servers.
  • Things to note: Because it relies on your browser, the performance and accuracy might vary depending on which browser you're using. It might not work at all on systems or browsers that don't fully support this technology.
  • Language Support: Currently, dictation is only supported for English. However, you can often select different English dialects within the setting to potentially improve accuracy based on your accent.
  • Recommendation: For the best experience with dictation, we recommend using the Chrome browser.

Integrating with TickTick

Want to send your generated task lists directly to your TickTick account? Here's how:

  • Requirements: You need to be logged into Beaver Flow and have connected your TickTick account.
  • Connecting: If you haven't connected yet, look for a popup at the bottom right of the screen and click the "Connect" button. This will redirect you to TickTick's official authorization page.
  • Permissions: On the TickTick authorization page, you'll see exactly what permissions we request. We want to be clear and transparent: we only request permission to create and edit tasks. We absolutely cannot read any of your existing tasks, notes, or other information in your TickTick account.
  • Authorization: After you review and approve the permissions on TickTick's site, you'll be sent back to Beaver Flow, and the "Send to TickTick" feature will be enabled.
  • Troubleshooting Connection Errors: Occasionally, during the authorization process, you might see a blank page with an error like OAuth Error error="invalid_client", error_description="Bad client credentials". This is a known issue on TickTick's side, and it's not something you did wrong! Usually, simply trying to connect again will resolve it.
  • Task Structure Limitation: TickTick's current API primarily supports creating tasks with checklists rather than deeply nested subtasks. Because of this, we currently support sending task lists with up to 2 levels of hierarchy. Your subtasks in Beaver Flow will appear as checklist items within the main task in TickTick.

Modifying Your Task List

Once Beaver Flow generates a task list, you're in control!

  • Rearranging: You can easily change the order of tasks or adjust their hierarchy (making a task a subtask of another) by simply dragging and dropping .
  • Editing: Need to tweak the wording of a task? Click the next to it to edit the content directly.
  • Further Breakdown: If a top-level task still feels too big or vague, click the next to it to run the breakdown process specifically on that task.
